Samsung Blackjack Review

samsung blackjack review Rating: 8.0 / 10

On November 16, Cingular released their new Samsung Blackjack, the company's second UMTS/HSPDA-capable smart phone. The exterior of the phone is presented in a thin, all-black casing. Not only is the Blackjack the thinnest phone currently available on the market, but its sleek design is also very lightweight and easy to handle. This makes the phone feel more like a cell phone instead of a hand-held personal digital assistant device.

The Blackjack is geared towards the person who seeks greater productivity on the road and has several navigation controls on the side of the phone making it easy to operate with one hand. The keys on the front of the phone, although a little slick, are full QWERTY and easy to use because of their oval shape. Not only are the keys spaced properly, but they provide a backlight feature to make typing easy if you are caught in a dimly lit location. Another great feature about the keyboard is the numbers, which are not separate from letter keys, are shaded in gray to make them easy to find for the user.

The UMTS/HSPDA provides speedy broadband connectivity, permitting you to easily download data up to 14.4 mbps. This technology allows the Blackjack to easily download information from the Web, listen to streamline media or download various games. This feature is a plus because the phone automatically comes with support for both Cingular Video and Music services. The downside of all this is the Blackjack lacks integrated Wi-Fi capabilities.

Other features found in the Blackjack involve the phone's corporate potential. It enables the user to transmit and receive e-mails, instant messages and other multimedia messages. Because the phone uses the Smartphone Edition of Windows Mobile, users will not have document editing capabilities or have access to Microsoft Office Mobile Suite. Instead, the Blackjack is fitted with Picsel Viewer Suite, allowing you to open and view Excel, Word and PowerPoint documents, plus PDF files. Aside from these qualities, the phone also allows the user to access calendars, contact lists, notes, a calculator and a voice recorder. It is recommended that users be in an area with strong signals to be able to work many of these broadband features.

The screen of the phone is not a touch screen, but has a vivid picture quality, sharp text and brightness. The sound quality is extremely clear, even when using the speakerphone feature. The Blackjack benefits travelers because the phone has the ability to be used in over one-hundred and eighty countries. The phone also has video recording and a 1.3-megapixel camera, producing quality pictures and the ability to adjust white balance settings. In addition, it provides 5.5 hours of talk time and up to eleven days of stand-by time.

The Samsung Blackjack is Cingular's latest product that promises to fulfill the necessary functions needed in a technology-savvy society. With all the new features and the easy-to-use keyboard, this phone sets a new tone for digital quality and performance.
