Cell Phone Ringtones, Wallpapers, and Other Downloads

With the advent of being able to use other ringtones on your cell phone besides what we were normally used to, which sounded a lot like a bell, now we have the world of music to remind us who's calling us. It's not enough anymore just to hear a bell ring when someone's calling us; we need a special song to let us know who is calling. While some phones are limited, others have no limit and can do everything from playing the entire two or three minute song to having the song play in the earpiece of the caller. This way, they can know what you think of them by the song they hear when they call. I'm not sure if the reason behind special ringtones has more to do with ego or if it's just our desire for everybody to see us when the phone rings.

Everything in America has to be personalized. We see it in the way we decorate our home, the kind of car we drive and even kind of clothes we choose to wear. Now we even do it with our cell phone. The viewing screen on our cell phone must say that it belongs to us. When people look at the screen on our phone, if it doesn't have our name on it, it will have a picture indicating to whom the phone belongs. You can download everything from the picture of a little smiley face all the way to the Sports Illustrated swimsuit pictures. You can train your phone to dial your favorite person simply by speaking their name, and while that feature has been out for a while, technology is making it easier and easier for voice recognition computerized gadgets to be owned by anyone who wants it. What started out as a feature to help the handicapped has turned into commonplace.

As far as downloads go, the sky's the limit. Your cell phone can not only play games, but it will also give you the latest stock quotes. And if that's not enough it will even take you to ESPN. But one of the most satisfying and fascinating technology to hit the cell phone industry is the capability of wireless Internet using your phone as a modem. Cell phone companies are now even selling what they call wireless cards you can plug into your laptop and surf the web from anywhere you can pick up a cell phone signal.

The history channel recently ran a program called 2057. The show speculated that by the year 2057, man would be able to have an elevator that would take him from the earth to a space station 250 miles above the earth's surface. The science behind this technology is being developed even as you read this article. Cell phones have started a trend, technologically speaking, that promises to take us on the ride that we will not soon forget. From the big bulky, walkie-talkie style telephones to the 1.1in. watch telephone; we haven't seen anything yet.
